This academic year, we are seeking several communications positions at Strife, including a leader for our Communications Team – which guides all of our communications, social media, and web strategies.
Strife has a significant audience of academics and students globally. Our communications team has grown over the years to ensure that the great content developed by our contributors and edited by our editorial team is marketed broadly around the world.
Recruitment for fall 2021 is presently closed as of 8 October 2021 – however we are still recruiting for the role of Publications Officer.

Communications Manager
The Strife Operations Team seeks a pro-active Communications Manager to join our busy operations team. The Communications Manager is responsible for the promotion and publication strategies of our dual publication. Managing a small team and working with the managing board the Communications Manager designs and operationalises our communications strategy including, social media, strategic partnerships, event and publication promotion. We are looking for a candidate with experience in strategic communications ideally within publishing or a relevant academic field. The Communications Manager will ideally be a graduate/post-graduate student.
Duties include:
- Management of our communications calendar
- Responsible for STRIFE’s marketing and communications plans
- Oversee the development of strategic partnerships and goals
- Responsible for designing, organising and disseminating STRIFEs publications
- Lead the Strife Communications Team, consisting of Social Media, Webmaster, and communications staff.
Person Specification:
- Experience in strategic communications or with a strong communications background
- Strong written and oral skills
- Experience drafting and developing strategic goals
- Experience in working to tight deadlines and managing projects independently
Web Manager
The Web Manager will be responsible for managing the hosting, design, infrastructure, and search engine optimization of Strife’s websites and content management system. Duties will include general administration of Strife’s websites, content management system, designs and themes, technical hosting infrastructure, search engine optimization efforts, and information security efforts.
Duties include:
- Coordinate with the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor-Blog, and Communications Manager on the layout, design, and content elements of the websites to ensure the best possible experience for readers and Strife staff.
- To provide stable and secure technical hosting infrastructure by properly maintaining Strife’s hosting infrastructure, content management, and information security needs.
- Assist the Managing Editors and Communication Manager as needed with the publication and editing of articles and/or journal issues.
- To provide Strife leadership with regular metrics on website traffic and search engine optimization results.
- Create and maintain documentation supporting the work done by other Strife staff members, such as posting new articles and journal issues; and technical documentation
- Create and maintain documentation supporting the roles and responsibilities of this role so that future incumbents can successfully transition into this role.
Person specification:
- Possess the necessary technical background to administer websites using the WordPress content management system
- Experience in serving in similar roles previously
- Strong written and oral skills
- Experience in working to deadlines and managing projects independently
Web Officer
The Web Officer will be responsible for working with the Web Manager in supporting the hosting, design, infrastructure, and search engine optimization of Strife’s websites and content management system.
This role is intended for someone willing to learn more about the WordPress content management system and some basic web hosting administration over the course of an academic year. A technical background is not a requirement. The Web Manager will work closely with this role in terms of technical training and coaching for the WordPress system used by Strife.
Duties include:
- Assist the Web Manager on the layout, design, and content elements of the websites through the WordPress content management system to ensure the best possible experience for readers and Strife staff.
- Assist the Managing Editors and Communication Manager as needed with the publication and editing of articles and/or journal issues.
- Lead specific web projects within the web assistant’s skillset to enhance or improve the online Strife experiences.
- Assist in creating and maintaining documentation supporting the work done by other Strife staff members, such as posting new articles and journal issues; and technical documentation

- Willingness to learn about WordPress, themes, CSS, search engine optimisation, and technical web hosting
- Strong written and oral skills

Publications Officer
We seek a highly organised individual with a strong interest in publishing to serve as Publications Officer on the Strife communications team. The Publications Officer is responsible for managing the posting of articles and other content to the Strife blog. The role requires close coordination between the Strife blog management team and Strife’s communications team to ensure articles are posted on-time and accurately. The candidate should be experienced in communicating clearly and effectively, have experience in time management and/or project management, and be interested in publishing, marketing, and/or communications.
Duties include:
- Following Strife blog’s publishing schedule and ensuring articles are queued for publication
- Monitoring Strife blog to ensure articles and other content are posted timely and accurately
- Coordinating with the Communications Team and Strife blog’s management team
- Communicating clearly and effectively as issues arise

Social Media Co-Ordinator
The Social Media Co-ordinator manages Strife’s social media presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. They work closely with the Communications Manager, Editor in Chief, and both Managing Editors to ensure that Strife’s content and programmes are adequately promoted and marketed. They make take on additional communications tasks as well.
Duties include:
- Managing Strife’s social media presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook
- Close coordination with the Communications Manager, Editor in Chief, and both Managing Editors
- Disseminate Calls for Papers and Newsletters to Strife’s strategic network
